Twilight Hack v0.1beta1

June 21st, 2008 by marcan · 188 Comments

This new version of the Twilight Hack is compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu, using the workarounds explained in previous posts. Thanks to everyone on IRC who contributed to the search for the bugs, and to tmbinc and tehpola for finding the two bugs that make this possible.

Changelog for this release:

  • The Twilight Hack is now compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu.
  • Improvements in video configuration. The entire console should now be visible in all video modes, and scrolling has been improved.
  • For the USA version, the two variants of the hack have been packed into one save file. Just select the save slot that corresponds to your version of Twilight Pricess when you start the game.
  • New savegame icons by drmr. The new icons now show which region that version of the hack is for.
  • This version now tries to load boot.dol, and falls back to boot.elf if boot.dol is not found.
  • ???????
  • Many, many bug fixes.

Download it here. Head over to Wiibrew for more information and updates. See the included README for installation and usage instructions.

Enjoy!

I don’t know if its so good with all the headlines… nintendo might have (almost for sure) noticed that the hack works again…

btw can you use wiibrew or something instead of freeloader?

  • 3 SdunS // Jun 25, 2008 at 10:51 pm

I feel stupied letting someone 40 miles away borrow my Twilight princess, but then I didn’t know about this hack…

  • 4 Anonymous // Jun 26, 2008 at 7:47 am

GeckoOS (the new Gecko Region Free) can replace the freeloader.

  • 5 Atacama // Jun 27, 2008 at 3:45 am

    @SdunS:
I would expect Nintendo would be watching Wiibrew etc in some form of another, so I don’t think the headlines make much difference there.

If I remember correctly, Twilight Princess was the only game they tried to exploit, and succeeded. There are plenty of Wii games out there now, and I’m sure that there’s more that are exploitable, and Team Twiizers are probably working on just that, and I’m guessing will keep it under wraps until Nintendo patch the Twilight Hack again. (Shall we look at September for that? ;)).

  • 6 launchd // Jun 27, 2008 at 8:13 am

    I don’t have Twilight Preincess 🙁
Plus, a week ago in the morning I updated the System Menu, in the afternoon I heard about the Homebrew channel and how the new update broke it.
    8(
Could you make a hack for Wii Sports, NFS Carbon or some Mii exploit??
    Just thinking… 😉

  • 7 wiimii // Jun 27, 2008 at 4:00 pm

no why would they make a exploit for another game when they have a working one already, just becuse you dont have zelda dosent mean they should make one just for you. The new update did nothing to HBC mine works fineand so dose everyone elses, PLUS if you do want tio re install it why not just rent zelda add the exploit and use that to install HBC

    Wii FW 3.3E PAL

    twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip
private\wii\title\rzdp\data.bin <- doesnt show up in Wii Savegame Menue

    twilight-hack-v0.1-alpha3a.zip
twilight-hack-v0.1-alpha3b.zip <- shows up but is unable to copy

I am doomed now , unable to run Homebrew.

When will there be an update to get it run again ?

  • 9 Katsuhiko // Jun 27, 2008 at 8:53 pm

OK , i got it now.

Don’t use Winrar to extract the files.
It might mess up the files like for me.

I used AlZip and it worked…

  • 10 launchd // Jun 28, 2008 at 12:37 am

    @wiimii

OK, I didn’t think about renting, but still it’s better to exploit something standard in the Wii, like Wii Sports savegames, Miis and such.

  • 11 Atacama // Jun 28, 2008 at 3:21 am

    @launchd

Not everything is exploitable, if you look at the PSP scene, the only game exploits that have allowed homebrew to run on the are GTA:Liberty City Stories and Lumines. Obviously there could be other games that are exploitable, but with the pandora battery out there, I think the hunt for game exploits on the PSP is on hold.
Twilight Princess had a fairly obvious potential exploit, in that it had user enterable content which would be potentially unchecked by the code (and it was).
Wii Sports doesn’t have such an obvious potential exploit, and exploiting Miis could be risky with causing bricked wiis.

Keeping exploits hidden from Nintendo whilst one still works is rather wise in my opinion.

wow, i found out of HBC a few days ago. Took me forever to install it, but i got it thanks to a friend. Im just afraid of my wii being bricked.

Also, games that are injected. Is there a way or a future update that will allow those games to have their original picture, because i don’t want to play Earthbound and have to start a donkey kong country 2 game to start Earthbound. It MAKES you look like a hacker.

Another thing, if i were to send my wii for a fix, since my wii menu is lagging whenever i click a channel, will Nintendo see that i hacked to put HBC on it??

  • 14 SPYMOFT // Jun 29, 2008 at 8:31 pm

oh, and, thanks to those that worked on this perfect channel. I can finaly understand Ness’ background in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. lol =D yay for Homebrew!!

  • 16 thenthenio // Jul 2, 2008 at 1:45 pm

    My WII has version 3.3E.
I followed the procedure, I can see all the Twilight Hack saves on the SD card, but none of them can be copied to WII.
EUR region give (in Italian) a message like this “Copy probably did not succeed”
USA and JAP regions sey (in Italian) something like this “you first have to play Zelda at least once”.
So I’m not able to try Twilight Hack (v0.1beta1).
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks!

  • 19 Sektor // Jul 6, 2008 at 6:02 am

    Vicki, try Gecko Region Free.

For people who can’t get the save to show up, try a different extraction program or make sure that the achieve file attribute is set on data.bin.

Bushing, you try to hack the brawl save data to create a Debug Mode or something… The one in Melee was awesome!

  • 22 shoshi // Jul 15, 2008 at 7:44 pm

This the RZDE file is not being detected on my 3.3 wii and my SD card is confirmed to work….Does this only work if it was hacked previous to the 3.3 update?

  • 23 shoshi // Jul 15, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Also, yes i have played zelda and there is also a save file on the wii

  • 24 Zeldarocks // Jul 15, 2008 at 8:00 pm

I am also having the same problem as the above poster, I have putthe save file on my sd card, Private, wii, title, RZDE, and it will not show up on my SD card

  • 25 Garuda // Jul 16, 2008 at 4:09 pm

Same problem as shoshi and Zeldarocks. I know for sure that my directories are correct, I’ve formatted my SD card many times, and I can load screenshots and stuff from Super Smash Bros. Brawl just fine, so I know it’s not a problem with the card.

  • 26 HCK // Jul 18, 2008 at 2:42 am

And you ppl remembered to rename it to data.bin, don’ t you?

  • 27 Zeldarocks // Jul 18, 2008 at 3:35 am

I went to IRC at #Wiihelp and they solved the problem, right click the data.bin, got to properties, and check the box that says archive under attributes

  • 28 Zeldarocks // Jul 18, 2008 at 3:36 am

then its problem solved 🙂 don’t thank me, thank the guys at wiihelp and wiidev

  • 29 Garuda // Jul 18, 2008 at 10:55 am

HOLY CRAP! Thanks for sharing that, Zeldarocks. It works now.

Yeah, I thanked you. Wanna fight about it? =P
